Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss – Story, Summary & Living Books Review
When Conrad and Sally get bored at home one rainy day when their mother is away, they believe that there is nothing to do. But one day a six-foot tall cat in a hat enters their home and tells them that despite the fact it is not a very sunny day there are still ways to have fun. Their talking fish disagrees, however, and the cat attempts to reassure him by playing a game he calls "Up-Up-Up With a Fish" and in it he balances the fish on an umbrella. Then, when the cat became even more angry, he simply says that there is nothing to be afraid of and he is going to lift him up in the air as he will be riding a ball. He starts to walk on the other objects, the cup, the cake, the three books, the new rake, the bottle and glass of milk on a dish, the toy ship, the toy man and the red fan until he loses his balance and the whole thing falls in the process. The fish all at once collapses into a teapot, and he is quite put out with the mischief of the cat, who has sunk the toy ship in the cake, and bent the rake.Catin the Hat by Dr. Seuss – Story, Summary & Living Books Review
He decides to remain at home, despite being ordered to leave it and hauls in a red box with two guys he refers to as Thing One and Thing Two. He releases them, and we see two short men dressed in red and with crazily colored blue hair. They are not trusted by the fish but the Cat in the Hat attempts to convince him that they are here to have fun on this very, very wet day. After hearing that they are having fun, by playing with kites inside the house, the fish simply makes people trust them even less that they are playing safely. They continue to bump their kites all over the place after which they quickly notice that their mother is coming home. Desperately, the narrator (Conrad) pulls out a butterfly net to trap the things. When he discovers the two things under his net, he is devastated and walks away dejectedly out of the house. The kids and the fish are happy to see him off, but they have no idea how to deal with the huge mess left by the cat and the things he made. At that moment the cat returns inside with a huge, red tractor to collect everything. He clears all of it, and is on his way when their mother comes up to the front door. Then she will question them about how it went when they were away, and the reader will have to choose how to answer. Catin the Hat by Dr. Seuss – Story, Summary & Living Books Review
